TRACK REVIEW: Jens Lekman – “Erica America”

Written for DIY

Jens, Jens, Jens. What are we going to do with you? It’s been nearly ten years since his quiet, funny, forlorn debut When I Said I Wanted to Be Your Dog, and from the sounds of it he hasn’t got any luckier in love. On his new album he proclaims I Know What Love Isn’t and on “Erica America” the Swedish sultan of bedroom indie pop chronicles another heartbreak, whilst warm keys and drums, female backing vocals, and a sax solo try to cheer him up. “Erica America, I wish I’d never met you,” he sighs. Well, we’re glad we did.
