TRACK REVIEW: Grizzly Bear – “Sleeping Ute”

Written for DIY

Finally, after an extended hibernation period following 2009’s Veckatimist, Grizzly Bear have stepped back out into the world, had a good stretch, and presented us with this. The first single to be taken from their new album, “Sleeping Ute” is more like straightforward, Big Star-style rock than you’d expect from the baroque pop lot. In fact, it’s actually closer to being a smart, indie-rock “Stairway to Heaven”, what with it being something of a multi-part epic, complete with a bit where the rock and noise and swooping synths collapse into a peaceful, acoustic folk ditty. Pretty great, worth the wait.
