TRACK REVIEW: Liars – “No.1 Against The Rush”

Written for DIY

Perennially unsettled experimental trio Liars, having ticked noise-rock, post-punk, dance-punk and any other number of sub-genres from their musical bucket list, seem to have broadened their horizons from their insular New York hub for album number six. The first song from the forthcoming WIXIW, out in June, “No.1 Against The Rush” is devoid of the band’s usual instrumentation, looking to Germany and adopting the motorik drum beat and chilly synths lines of krautrock. It suits them to a T, and they manage not to totally step on The Horrors’ toes while doing it.
