TRACK REVIEW: Weezer – “Teenage Victory Song”

Written for DIY

“Hash Pipe“‘s B-side keeps with the usual Weezer aesthetic – Rivers Cuomo was the dorky kid in school, now he’s a rock star who can hold his own with the cool guys – but it’s a whole lot angrier. Not necessarily in the music, which is the usual heavy-but-melodic rock, from the opening lines: “I’m gonna bury you, I don’t care what you do”, to: “I’m gonna beat you right, and mash you in the nads, and kick you outta sight”. “Teenage Victory Song” is a call for downtrodden nerds to rise up and hit their oppressors where it hurts.
